Is AI changing art forever?
Crafting the Future explores how AI is unlocking new realms of creativity for artists, AI advancements push the boundaries of brain state prediction and robotics, and a call to conquer procrastination inspires decisive action.
This week we’re diving into how AI is reshaping creativity, exploring mind-blowing updates in robotics and brain prediction tech, and tackling procrastination with some tough love from Ryan Holiday. Let’s get into it!
Thing 1 - Crafting the Future: Art, Technology, and the Soul of Creativity
Artists always tried to make people think and to invoke emotion.
This was always in spite (or because of) the circumstances of their time. "Tortured artist" isn't an expression because they have everything served on a silver platter.
Technology played a role at each stage and leveled the playing field. How many photographers could paint? Artists were often the ones pushing the envelope for how the technology can be used to express in a creative way.
AI isn't going to change that. It's going to make us go back to the drawing board and think about what art is.
Art (often) involves physical skill, but physical skill isn't art by itself. (How many copies of famous arts are produced every day by art students?)
Art, in a way, requires the artist to leave a piece of their soul in their work, and everyone can feel that.
This is going to become more obvious with the new fleet of artists who's creativity will be unlocked by AI.
For the first time ever, it will be possible for individuals (or small groups) to create immersive, extended, custom-to-you, brain-altering experiences that shape new generations.
Everyone will have these tools at their fingertips, and it's going to be harder to stand out.
And the new craft(s) will be born.
It's exciting!
Thing 2 - AI of the week
- OpenAI's new model - GPT-4b micro - can suggest ways to re-engineer the protein factors to increase their function.
In line with my predictions for 2025. - On a similar topic, researchers from the University of Sydney managed to predict brain states up to 5.04s in future with the previous 21.6s.
What do you mean "predict brain states", Z? Yes, it knows what you will think...
Well, it knows what your brain state will be - the missing part is still interpreting it. For now... - Unitree G1 Bionic got an upgrade - smoothest walking and humanoid running in the world
- At the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, a robot conducted an orchestra performing music written by AI
- OpenAI rolled out a beta version of tasks - you can ask ChatGPT to do thing for you at some point in future. You'll get a notification with the stuff you ask for (I got an email when testing it)
- New open-source text-to-speech model - OuteTTS-0.3
We're seeing more of these coming on. It's been the missing part for on-device audio-to-audio conversations since Whisper became available for transcription. - Mirror Me released The Black Panther 2.0, the fastest 4-legged robot in the world
Thing 3 - Make the Call: Do It Now or Let It Go
To procrastinate is to be entitled. It is arrogant. It assumes there will be a later. It assumes you’ll have the discipline to get to it later (despite not having the discipline now).
- Ryan Holiday
If it's worth doing at some point and you want to do it, do it now.
Or if you prioritize something else, decide you won't do it at all and be free of it.
Regain focus. Act.
Cheers, Zvonimir
